Meet the Team
Cultivating the next generation of therapists, Growing Potential LLC provides supervision, consultation, and training. We are an active internship site and are building our team of inspired therapists.
Sophie Berkley LPC, RPT-S
My own journey of growth has led me from seeking healing for myself, to helping others heal, and unlocking their innate potential to thrive.
Supervisor, Consultant, and Mentor
As a registered play therapy supervisor (RPT-S), Certified Synergetic Play Therapy Supervisor, and EMDRia approved Consultant, I support interns and therapists to master their art.
Walking my own Path of Healing
I often tell others that I am qualified by experience. I have my own unique story of trauma and healing. My own healing has given birth to my sense of purpose in sharing the joy of achieving wholeness with others. Everything I do and teach, I have experienced myself as a client and as a therapist.
EMDR Therapy
When I learned about EMDR for the first time as an undergraduate Psychology student I thought it was voodo. Having an EMDR therapist who helped me integrate and heal my own trauma gave me the passion to become an EMDR therapist and consultant.
Synergetic Play Therapy
I learned to "come home" to myself and my heart with SPT. Grounded in science, and deeply intuitive, SPT has become a way of life and my lens for the world. The skills I learned through SPT have become foundational to my therapy, consultation, and supervision.
Community
No one is an island. I guide Growing Potential LLC to be active in the community. Supporting schools, our Childrens Advocacy Center, and other community groups and non-profits, I believe we are all part of a larger system.
Being a Therapist
Being in private practice can be isolating...even being in community mental health can be challenging! Creating support systems for therapists through consultation and supervision not only hones skills, it provides depth in connection for others.
Kayla Guettich MA, LPCC
During our time together, we will laugh a lot, we may cry, we may celebrate and grieve. Sometimes we may work to understand the nuances of long-held survival patterns and sometimes we may experience healing in real-time through art, play, walking in nature, somatic processing or EMDR.
I enjoy and value working with caregivers, when appropriate. This may look like processing with caregivers on their emotions and physiological responses, strengthening their attunement skills, understanding the purpose of their child’s behavior, while developing trauma-informed responses. Ultimately, my hope is to provide a counseling space where children, adolescents and their caregivers can strengthen their resiliency and feel empowered to be unapologetically themselves.
Career Experience
I have worked as a counselor in group practice, integrated community health, and as a school-based therapist. I have also been a wilderness therapy guide, developed and led psychoeducation workshops and worked as an Executive Functioning Coach for ADHD.
Walking my own Path of Healing
I was raised in Steamboat Springs and recently returned home to accompany my mom in her last few months battling terminal cancer. It has been the greatest honor and source of pain in my life. I mention this as it continues to fuel my empathy and understanding in what the deepest grief and most painful parts can feel like. My mom's legacy continues to live on through work, my friendships and my love for nature and live music.
Education
I studied and practiced wilderness and recreation therapy at Western Washington University and then obtained my MA in Counseling from Oregon State University. I consider myself a life-long learner and have additional training in working with gender-diverse youth, attachment-focused family therapy, motivational interviewing, and cognitive processing therapy.
EMDR Therapy
I am trained in EMDR therapy and help clients overcome and integrate trauma.
Synergetic Play Therapy
I practice Synergetic Play Therapy as a tool in rewiring the child's nervous system. Through this process, we work to develop emotional awareness and strive to braoden the child's capacity to tolerate big emotions.
Family Counseling
I work from a relationship and attachment-focused lens to use an evidence-informed approach to help families reconnect into developing more secure relationships. As a family, we collaboratively explore needs, repair ruptures in relationships, and create new ways of relating to each other. We will courageously lean into conflict, say the hard thing, listen to understand, and witness authentic connection.
Being a Therapist
My role in the journey of therapy is to walk alongside my clients with unconditional support. We collaboratively co-create a plan that that is meaningful to you.
Life Beyond Counseling
I find joy in powder skiing, trail running, trying new recipes, and savoring a good hot cup of coffee.
Gail Cridland MA, LPCC
